Did I just waste money on SAND?

Hi folks,

I have 7 pullets, 9 and 6 weeks old. I noticed they enjoy the dust bath, so I thought maybe they would like sand bath better?

So I built them a sandbox from an old cabinet, and dumped 150 lbs of play sand that I bought from Home Depot. Yep, you guessed it -- the girls aren't using the sandbox at all! They are still doing the dust bath in top soil. The best I've seen them do is jump into the sandbox and jump right out.

So did I just waste my money on the sand? Will they start using it as they get older? Thanks!!

I hate to say it but you might have. however, I put pineshavings in my pens one time and the chickens wouldn't have a thing to do with them. but after two days they love it. so give it a few more days
