Is this a silky? Will post a picture of the chick once it's ready to join its sister in the brooder! Chick's got crippled legs but it's otherwise in perfect health. We made a leg brace for it out of a rubber band and a piece of a plastic straw.
She (I'm pretty sure it's a she) and her sister are Lavender Orpingtons, but I am actually thinking about adding Silkies to the batch so that the two chicks aren't lonely by themselves! I am maybe going to try and look around for Silkie chicks to add to the batch. Is this a silky?
I'd absolutely love to have one of those fluffy white silky roosters lolShe (I'm pretty sure it's a she) and her sister are Lavender Orpingtons, but I am actually thinking about adding Silkies to the batch so that the two chicks aren't lonely by themselves! The chick's name is Lucky (because she is very lucky to have survived for so long), and her sister is Lint Ball! She is walking around great in her brace. She just absorbed her yolk sac today, and she will stay in the incubator until probably tomorrow evening, depending on how she does.I'm glad you have people here who can help. Can't wait to see the chick!
I o not take my Chicks out o the Incubator i its Pippe. You will shrink rap the chick, an it will ie. I woul maybe wait a bit, an i you notice slower breathing i woul maybe try to help. I you nee to help the chick, Use Tweezers an Careully peel o the shell. Ater u peel o the shell (i woul only o a bit, Unless. Its a big Emergency) then let the Chick peck an kick o the shell, Make sure to go slow. Because u might pop a bloo vessel, or something like thatHello!
I'm not very active on Backyard Chickens (my last post, which was about quail hatching) was eight months ago lol), but I am hatching another batch of eggs after eight months, this time lavender Orpingtons. One of my chicks hatched yesterday morning. I am waiting for the other two to hatch.
A couple of hours ago, I took out an egg from my incubator with an external pip from my incubator to candle it, thinking that it was dead. I took the egg out for about thirty seconds. Then a couple hours later, I opened my incubator for about twenty seconds to check on the egg. I noticed that the chick was alive, and that the beak was moving around inside! I immediately put it back in and gently sprayed the egg with water to soften the shell, but I'm super worried now.
Could I have killed my chick from taking it out, even though I only took it out from the incubator for about a minute, and will my chick be ok?
(Note: I did the incubator three or four split-second-quick times today to pour water in the tray and increase the humidity of the incubator)
Ahh, I just saw this. Well, u can use my Comment or uture chicks (i you nee help)The chick's name is Lucky (because she is very lucky to have survived for so long), and her sister is Lint Ball! Will she need medicated feed? Will she be able to be in the same brooder as her sister, or will she need a separate brooder from her sister due to her brace?
