Did she Freeze to death?

Sometimes we never know why they die suddenly. They could have had a sudden heart attack, or a freak accident, like slamming their heads against something that they end up with broken neck or broken skull or internal bleeding that you just don't know.

I've lost a few that slammed their bodies against the wall....sudden death and nothing you can do about it.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry you lost her. Chickens can get pretty sick without our ever having an idea they don't feel well; it's a survival mechanism, so the others don't attack. I had one just "up and die," too. It was during the day and in the coop with the others coming and going, no sign of anything, very unlikely due to a predator. They get cancer, heart attacks, strokes, aneurysms, a long list of things we can't see. I'll never know. Sometimes you can figure it out if you open them up or send them off for autopsy; I didn't. I agree, the cold is not the problem.

That coop is encircled by a 16' x 16' pen made of cattle panels (with chicken wire) that was locked.

That's not going to keep anything out that can climb

If she "fell" off the roof, she was already near death

Sometimes they just die

I know how you feel. I lost a golden comet to her falling off the roost and breaking her neck during the night. It was a terrible scene the next morning. Hope you can figure out what it is...
