Depends on which people. Some have switched to actual homeschooling, some always were homeschooling and still are, and lots are indeed doing what could be called "crisis schooling."

And then there are the parents that are saying teachers are doing nothing right now while their kids are failing classes in school because the teachers are still teaching and providing assignments and the kids are just not doing any of it.

(My husband is a teacher and is still teaching and giving assignments, only about 3 kids are doing them)

Well this thread certainly came alive! I didn't mean to complain that I wasn't getting answers or exchanging useful information with other forum members.

What seemed to be missing recently was joking, whimsical replies, and OT fun stuff that adds joy to our lives. That was what seems down a tad.

I saw an internal memo from a HS Principal in a state I won't name. +80% of their students are on track to fail final tests, are not doing the work. God help us.

I believe that what they are doing at his school is that the normal high school classes, if they were passing when they were sent home that they will pass, if they weren't passing they will give them stuff to try to pull the grade up. The AP and Dual Enrolled (getting college credit in high school) kids are still supposed to be doing their work and are actually still being graded not just Pass/Fail.

I may be misquoting some of that because it keeps changing and as I am not having to personally deal with it, just hearing from my husband, I may have gotten some things mixed up.

This kid works better with pencil/paper rather than online, I know the correct answers, and the kid's grade is already good enough--so I told the teacher I'm handling it, and I'm not even trying to turn things in.

Sounds like what my area is doing, for all grades.

I've got an elementary schooler who is doing schoolwork with me each day, but the teacher isn't seeing any of it. This kid works better with pencil/paper rather than online, I know the correct answers, and the kid's grade is already good enough--so I told the teacher I'm handling it, and I'm not even trying to turn things in.

And for that age that seems like the sensible way to go about it. For the highschoolers that are never off of the computer or their phones anyway and that are expecting college credit, they need to be able to grow up a little and do some work online.

The classes he teaches they turn their work in online anyway to be graded and that is how he gives out assignments even when in school, so not even really a difference other than the lecture and he is putting together a powerpoint and then recording him talking while flipping through so they can see what he's talking about and even see his mouse moving if he wants to point at something specific in an image.

Sort of. You just have to get used to it for REAL homeschooling.
