I incubated my Eggs on 25th April 2012 and made up a chart for the days so i can monitor everything

I made the biggest blunder on the chart

due to the fact i never messed with the eggs much and allowed the turner to turn eggs i never payed attention much to dates

and on my chart i put April as having 31 Days [what a Dumbo i am]

so in effect what i have done is stopped turning on day 17 and upped the humidity on day 17 to 65% and on day 19 to 70% where it sits today at day 20 which i thought was day 21

what i wanna ask is stopping turning and upping humidity to 65% 1 day early

will that effect the eggs

i decided to set my outside environment correctly and candle the eggs

i noticed as i pencil the aircell that the aircell has grown further so aircell looks good and i can also see veining at the aircell line which say they are alive [i think] there is still no internal PIP as far as i can see

do you think they will be ok and pip tmoz or have i just commited poulty homocide

i feel like such a fool and am well stressed by it all

grrrrr kick for me on the backside

Many times i forget to turn off the turner or increase humidity an vise versa with almost no problems rules are made to be broken

do you mean April 2012?
anyway, i think you'll be fine. many ppl do that. as long as the air cell has developed properly. I recently read an article on the study of embryology with incubating eggs that stated that it was actually not necessary to turn after day 14. but a hen will turn up to the day of the hatch. everyone makes mistakes, its part of being human. keep us posted...

thanks guys for the advice i just hate it when you getto the end and things go wrong and im quite an emotional guy

i feel like i did last year when my son passed away during birth. it just so hard to take in after all a life is a life be it human or animal

the only thing that triggered me was the fact i got no pip so i decided to recount teh days and look at the chart and noticed i added an extra day

fingers crossed all will be well :)

There is a chart going around this forum that is just wrong. It shows lockdown and hatch to be a day earlier than it should be. An egg does not have a day's worth of development 2 seconds or 2 hours after it is put in the incubator. It takes 24 hours for the egg to have a day's worth of development. Lockdown should be after 18 days of development, not 17 days and 2 seconds. Hatch should be after 21 days of development,. not 20 days and 2 seconds. The day of the week that you set them, should be the day of the week they hatch. If you set them on a Tuesday, they should hatch on a Tuesday.

There is another thing going around this forum that if you set them in the morning that is Day 1, but if you set them in the afternoon, tommorow is Day 1. That's not right either.

But you know what? It usually does not really matter. Most of the people that lock down a day early still get good hatches. The eggs are a lot tougher than you would think and the lockdown requirements are not that precise. A lot of the time you can be off by a day and things are still fine.

You can run into problems by locking down too early. If your incubator is running a bit cool, hatch could be really late, like by two or three days. If your humidity was high during incubation, maybe an extra day to lose some more moisture would be helpful. Locking down early in those situations might cause some problems. Doing it right improves your odds of getting a good hatch, but locking down a day early is not always or even usually a death sentence. Usually it does not matter.

everything you say makes alot of sence and for that reason i always set about 1am that way i have the whole day 24 hours to call it day 1

i set my eggs on 25th april at 1am [the night of 24th] so that would make the next day 26th a full day

with that all said day 21 will be tonight tuesday 1am

thanks for the reassurance that all ahould be ok

Sorry to you and you wife on the passing of your son... hatching is emotional. No apologies necessary.

Another "if it makes you feel better" I had read about not needing to turn the eggs after Day 14 so we tried it. Was only one hatch that we've done it with so far but, we took the eggs out of the turner on Day 15. All eggs that made it to lockdown hatched out just fine.

Even when a hen is on eggs, the humidity around her will change with the weather...it's not like she's hermetically sealed to the nest.

Bet your hatch will be just fine. As long as you had good sized air cells, you won't damage them with an extra day or two of higher humidity. Good luck!

What are you hatching anyway?
