The 1st egg is now out also

again zipped about 2/3rds and then made a big push and hatched out opening the shell like a door hinge


very pleased on a very good hatch

this was my second hatch ever and im so pleased with the result


now for my next batch thats in the toaster hehe

bit worried for the one on left the down is very rough and not fluffy




ended up loosing my white leghorn chick this morning very very upset

So cute! Don't worry about the rough down. Some chicks just dry out like that. My daughter likes to comb the new chicks with an old toothbrush. It always fluffs them right up!

Sorry to hear about your leghorn chick. I have a bantam wyandotte that hatched yesterday, but it's really, really struggling. I gave her some electrolytes. Nothing to do now but wait and hope she improves.

the toothbrush idea sounds great and i always keep my old brushes never know what i need them for [mostly cleaning PC internals]

just to let you guys know they are both Pullets

the pin feathers on their wing suggest so

a short and long feathering pattern

funny so far all my orps that have hatched are pullets

i really need to try harder to hatch out a roo

hehe
