Did Tractor Supply give me the wrong chick?

Is it a concern at all for the welbar pullet to be the only welbar left in the flock if I rehome him? I'm wondering if it's better to rehome them together.
I have 13 and no duplicates of any breed. They all get along great. I don’t think they really code for breed. Like dogs and cats.

It shouldn't be an issue in terms of her welfare, but it might be easier to rehome them as a pair if you struggle to find someone to take just the cockerel.

Okay. What would be a good price for a young welbar cockeral? I have read that some people may not have good intentions for roosters. I do care enough that I want him to go to a good home. Thank you!

Sorry, I have no idea what would be reasonable for wherever you live.

Most people where I am wouldn't ask for any money for just a spare cockerel unless it was a rare breed or a show quality bird.

$5 or free to quickly rehome is normal. You can get $10-$15 for larger adult roosters.

Did you end up keeping the Welbar pullet? Thinking of getting some and want to see their eggs!

I have decided to keep him! And sold the other three for $10 each. My welbar is such a gentleman, all the hens are at peace around him, he hasn't showed a single sign of aggresion and he is so beautiful - he is a blessing in disguise. He doesn't like to be touched but he is so respectful and majestic that I have a new appreciation for the "good rooster." The other 3 were nightmares and were stressing out everyone - hens and people alike. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. 🥰

Now, I look forward to the eggs! My welbar pullet is the last one remaining to start laying. I expect to see her first egg soon. I have some blue and green laying hens so I want to hatch some of their eggs this spring/summer out of curiosity. The only issue I see is maybe he is TOO nice lol so far he isn't very busy fertilizing everyone - just the same two hens like once a day. He's great at everything else but maybe that will change!

Sorry, I just realized that I responded mostly about my cockerel not my pullet 😂
I will update with a picture of her eggs when she starts laying. She is really taking her time. She and the cockerel are such beauties. Neither of them like to be touched but they definitely like to hang out close and are both very curious. I like them so far. 👍

I kept my welbar cockerel because he turned out to be such a sweet gentleman and gave me the courage to sell my other terrible 3 roos for $10 each! That was the right price. I'm so glad with how things turned out. 🙂

You might not see him mate with other hens, but he probably does. They are pretty quick about it and some won't do it with people watching them.
