Yes chickens can get sun burned too. I have a friend who had 4 hens and 2 Roos. The Roos wore the feathers off the backs of the hens and they got sun burned. It took a long time for the feathers to grow back.

Their feathers may not regrow til after their next moult. Meanwhile, all it takes is a little blood in that bare area and you will have canibalism big time. You need to put some saddles on them.

They can be purchased here, or made very inexpensively with a pair of scissors and a scrap of polarfleece, or an old garment made of polarfleece. Here is a link that I used: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=167 (Scroll down.)

I did not even make the slit for the tail, only for the wings. Works fine.

Chickens will peck each other any time new chickens are introduced, to establish a new pecking order. We can limit that pecking to prevent deaths, with some expeirence and knowledge. Lots of info available here.

Ok this is a dumb question, but as nice as my EE are. How in the Heck am I going to get that jacket on them? I know I can catch them if I go in at roosting time. I can foresee many wings a flappin...may be worth taping me trying to do this right??
