Hey all, to start on a sad note, we lost Buck Sagebrush this past weekend. The other 4 seem to have gotten over it (food helps) but we're still a little shook.

I have a question about one of our younget ones. She is a week old, ordered from MPC Bantam and we requested a Silky. Happy, healthy, def. a bantam, but I was curious about the legs. I've seen some other silkie baby pics and they already have down on their legs. Ours has black legs with normal colored feet, but no down. Do some just develop this later than others, or did we get a different bantam and they just didn't bother to tell us?

Here's a pic, hope it helps:cool:

The Silkies that I have hatched were feather-legged right out of the shell, does it have the five toes?

errrr....no...I'm only counting four toes here. Here are some more pics that I just took, hope they help resolve this.

If H.W. Bawkbagawk here is not a silke, I'll be extremely dissappointed that no one had the courtesy to tell me this, and then infrom what breed it actually is.

So here are the feetsies.

And here is the whole lil chickie

I think you got a substitution - Call MPC they are pretty good about customer service. Maybe they can tell you what they sent.

My last batch I wanted a GLW and they called me as they were getting my order together and gave me a huge choice of options because they were out of GLW and SLW which was the breed I chose for substitution. I got a barred rock. Maybe they couldn't reach you or you had a breed okayed for substitution available.

Your chick is very cute, even if it isn't a silkie!

In case you didn't know, as many don't, 'jipped' or 'gypped' is considered a racial slur towards the Romani people (Gypsies).

That can't be a silkie, I'm sorry.

My silkies had down on their legs and black legs and 5 toes. It's a cute little thing, though!

She is a real cutie...just not what we ordered

Anyways, whoever hatched our babies apparently didn't feel it necessary to cechk the order notes and contact us. MPC is working to make it right, though. We still love the lil gal, any ideas on this breed?
