omg, yes! i sucker-bought the plans on line and my neighbor helped alot! it LOOKS great! A-Frame - move around the yard model. Didn't think it thru...you have to be the size of a 3 yr. old to fit into the bottom to refill the water and food and sand box and treat bowl....62 yr. old woman with MS...not so much....already planning a bigger one with a HUMAN door!
YEs , orginally when we got chicks last year my DH remodeled our old rabbit hutch to accomodate the chicks. This year we ordered more chicks for McMurray and need more room soooo...
He is still in the process of building a 12x12 coop. The girls will get 12 x 8 with three nice big windows and I will get 12 x 4 to store food and supplies in. Will post pics soon.
I built my own coop. It is 12x8 and raised 2ft off the ground, it has 2 attached runs. One is 12x20 and the other is 20x20. The inside is sectioned off 8x8 for the chickens and 4x8 for food and bedding storage. I can section off part of the storage area including access to one of the runs for introducing new birds to the flock.
I had originally bought a Chick-N-Barn but realized that it would not be adequate for our winters. So DH and I built a bigger, better coop. I thought of buying a pre-fab unit, although they are all so expensive.
I'm not much of a carpenter, but coops, tractors, yards, nest boxes and so on are all built by me. I'd never be able to afford to keep birds if I had to buy pre-fab.
