Did you know that my adult niece & her family are moving tomorrow? She asked me if I can come over to help pack their Uhaul & clean their house. I've packed a lot of Uhauls in my time, but nobody has ever asked me to clean their house.
Is this normal?
It doesn't feel normal!
I cleaned my parents house after I moved them, but that was a whole different situation.

I dunno . Seems like a lot. Have you two always been very close? She has no one else to depend on? Personally I would bow out but then I'm an old codger. Search your own heart. It won't lead you astray.

I dunno . Seems like a lot. Have you two always been very close? She has no one else to depend on? Personally I would bow out but then I'm an old codger. Search your own heart. It won't lead you astray.

I'm close with my sister who lives out of state & it would break her heart if I wasn't helping her kids, no matter how old & ill mannered they are. Today my niece added, taking her kids to the park (its 100+ degrees outside) to keep them distracted. Soooo, she wants me to pack her stuff, clean her house & babysit her kids? It makes me want to ask her what exactly she'll be doing all day. They're in the military & have dozens of people around to party with them every weekend, but I guess you dont ask a party buddy to clean your bath tub. I know I sound like a grumpy, old, hater & that's really not like me (well, the 'old' parts accurate), but this is the same niece whos family has lived here a few times in between housing & deployments & has been obnoxious about it. The same niece whos DH acts like he's being burned with hot pokers every time he sees us. The same niece who I call a week before every Thanksgiving & all other major 'food' holidays to invite them over, who tells me every year that if they don't have any other plans, maybe they'll show up... etc... etc... I just want to survive tomorrow & get them outta here so I don't have to deal with it anymore.
I'm sorry to vent! I've moved dozens of family & friends over the years & none of them has ever asked me to clean their house. It just seems so... her.

Lol sounds like she's a little disrespectful and you're pretty kind hearted. I know it's a hard decision to make. You just have to choose one and stick with it. I think someone asking to be helped should deserve to be helped. If she's truly gonna finally be outta your hair for keeps, maybe go for it.
