Dieting??

Just wanted to say that I'm still using SP, and really liking it. The articles that they suggest are great, and full of really good commons sense tips that we just seem to forget when we are eating. And the tools are so helpful. I learned from a friend to factor in some things ahead of time if I am planning to go out for dinner or lunch. That way I can see how the stuff will affect my plan. Then I can remove it, and try something else. I love that I can do that, even when at home. When I am cooking something I can see how much of it I can have, or substitute something for something else. Well, maybe I didn't say that right, but you know what I mean, right? Anyway, keep on working at it, you'll get there!

I started with spark people at the first of March. Today was weigh-in and I've lost seven pounds. I'll count it as "real" when I hit the ten pound mark, since I've been losing and gaining the same 7 pounds for about three years now. I'm following a low-fat, high-carb, mostly vegetarian diet; at least for now. I have about 50 pounds to get rid of.

I have some advice. Don't diet. If you diet you will gain later. Eat to live, not live to eat. I gave up dieting 2 years, decided to eat what I like to eat in smaller quantities, and have lost 40 lbs not dieting. It took time, but I am a happier, healthier person. I am still overweight, but I find myself craving fruit instead of candy and green beans over chips. I really don't like many veggies, but I can eat a whole bag of green beans!!!

Find what healthy food you perfer. Don't make yourself eat something you really don't like. You will probably not "learn to like it". Find a whole grain bread that you LIKE, don't settle. You will be happier for it and not struggling with what you "can't" eat. No such thing. If you want a cookie, have 2. If you want ice cream, go out to get it at a ice cream shop and have one scoop in a cup. There was ways to enjoy food and not be a slug.

EVERYTHING in my family revolves around food. I have a huge family from Louisiana. I have had to learn that I eat to keep my body healthy, not to reward myself. I am a low carb, high protein diet. I eat lots of green leafy veggies and others, lots of CHICKEN, some fish and steak. I do get to have 1 day a month that I can eat that piece of cake or whatever I want. I am monitored by a Dr. and have lost 75 lbs so far. I know some will say that as soon as you go off the low carb diet it will all come back. I'm determined for that not to happen. I have a treadmill and brand new gym at my house and love it. I guess it's what works for you that matters. This is a lifestyle change for me, food is no longer my enemy that I have to battle with everyday.

Debi is right, Ive been losing weight since September, and have lost 40lbs so far, just by low fat, ald low chlolesterol (Docs orders) and just eating smaller meals. It works.

Awesome!!!

I have lost 42 lbs so far and cured my high blood pressure the same way. I also have my monthly off plan day during my book club meetings...but even then I can have a small amount of cake or other treat without binging. Before low carb I could never do that.

Some people are just very intolerant to carbohydrates. I am one of them. With a family history of diabetes, heart disease, gout, arthritis and other illnesses related to inflammation, excess insulin and glucose metabolism disorders, raising me on breakfast cereal, instant mashed potatoes, fruit juice and pasta wasn't the best of plans.

if you're muscles are already reasonably toned, a dance dvd really helps. There's one with the NYC ballet, and the steps aren't too hard, but if you do it all the way through with full effort, it's really a workout.
