Diffences Between EEs, Ameraucanas, and Araucanas

Yes, she is full grown. She was rescued 6 months ago (at this size), I've had her for over 4 months. She started laying for me on Christmas Eve, much to my surprise. Her legs are slate. If I had to describe her eggs as EITHER green OR blue, I'd have to say green. In Dec they were peewee size, now they're small size. Unfortunately she's my smallest and at the pecking order bottom. She's very sweet but every time I try to touch her she leaps away thinking I'm sure that she's being pecked AGAIN.

I ordered four EEs from my neighbors last summer, turned out they were all roosters. I kept the white one.

We just got 6 chicks from our local feed store. They were marked as Araucanas. After reading about this breed and seeing all the pics, I think we have EEs. None of them are rumpless, they have greenish legs, and no tufts. Just fluffy looking cheeks. They look like little owls. Ok with us though. We just want healthy chickens and pretty eggs! I just wish the stores and hatcheries would get educated and not mislabel these breeds.

I agree, adamantly!!

I have been haranguing our local mill about calling the EE's Araucana's, but they refuse to change what they call them.
The hatchery calls them that too, even tho the literature has the disclaimer 'Araucana/Ameraucana strain....known as easter egger because blahblahblah', so it just gets perpetuated. It's easier to say Araucana than explain what an EE is.

People avoid the truth when it's easier to accept a more romantic delusion.

Hello everyone, so I bought a few birds from a guy across town. Not smart I didn't do my homework. The most beautiful one unfortunately got attacked by a hock I already have 3 RIR great girls ! But back to my story. I tried to call the guy back to see what exact breed the cockerel and pullet are. No reply. I have been reading and reading! Driving my husband nuts. To say the least. So I believe I have mixed american game, EE and or Ameraucana ?? Both Sassy ( cockerel) and pepper( pullet. ) have white skin. Sassy is the most intriguing to me! He has very little tail feathers, a purple tint to his black feathers, dark yellow legs, a pea comb and beginning of wattle. However, it has not grown just red lines on his chin. His face is red as well. They are both about 12 weeks. If anyone has any input please let me know.

That was a bit of over kill on the pictures they are both good when we catch them. They will sit with us for a few minutes. We have made sure to give them lots of loves everyday! Our Reds love to snuggle ! Please any thing? From what I have read, it seems they have traits of each breed or 2/3? I can take some new pictures tonight. Maybe that will help.

It may be helpful when your pullet starts laying. Her chipmunk down matches up well with her wild type feathering; could have brown leghorns, cream legbars, crele penedesencas, or welsumers in the mix.

Your cockerel reminds me of a speckled sussex or some other speckled/mottled variety.

If they both have peacombs, it is likely that they have Ameraucana in the mix, but neither one is showing beards or muffs, so ... they could be several generations of mixes or?

The eggs and offspring will be helpful, but often not decisive information.

Why do they have to be any particular breed? They are not Ameraucanas, nor are they Araucanas. There are many nice looking birds that simply lay colored eggs. Enjoy them for what they are!

Mostly it's just an awareness about false advertising.......and some people want pure bred birds, because they do...or they want to play with specific crosses.
It's just a different hobby than mixed mutt backyard egg layers, personally I like to have some of each (mutts and purebreds).

Why do they have to be any particular breed?   They are not Ameraucanas, nor are they Araucanas.   There are many nice looking birds that simply lay colored eggs.  Enjoy them for what they are!

I love all my birds! Nor do I expect a certain breed, Or pure bred. I am just curious about my little angels. They intrigue me.
