Difference between Booted Bantams and D' Uccles?

We purchased 2 chicks this spring that were labeled Porcelain Booted Bantams. I've been doing some research, and seem to see both Booted / D' Uccles referred to as the same breed. On Feathersite, they have lots of pictures of birds identified as "Booted" listed under the D' Uccles.

Is it correct to assume, if the bird has a beard & muff, it's acutally a D' uccle? I need to know for sure what we have before the girls have to register for fair, and they do have the beard & muffs, so I'm thinking they are not actually Booted as we first thought.

d'uccles have muffs & beard; booteds do not. I think there are some minor type differences, including a slight size difference, but these are not breeds with which I am intimately familiar.

No, it's just the beards & muffs. Otherwise they're exactly the same. Per the APA Standard description of d'Uccles "Same as Booted Bantams except for beards & muffs."

OK, I was just looking at these birds again tonight, and realized they do not have beards, just muffs. They are pullets if that makes a difference. So the question is, what are they if they just have muffs and no beard?

Or are they neither....just mutts?

They look like my porcelain d'uccles. D'uccles have small tiny wattles, and the muffs, not all of mine have much of a beard, but they all have the muffs. And their middle toe and outermost toe is supposed to have feathering on it. They are wonderful birds, and gentle with kids- especially the hens, good choice!

Technically, you cannot have muffs but not beards or vice versa. Same gene causes both. That said, sometimes the muffs are more prominat, and sometimes the beard is. I did once see a photo of a naked neck that was nuffed, but not beared--I think it had something to do with the Na gene, but exactly what how I do not know as there are plenty of beared showgirls.
