I got an assortment of Bantam chicks and have some feathered chicks included - the silkies were easy 5 toes, black skin/legs and puffy tops - now we are down to are D'uccle or cochin are there any give away signs to determine which breed they are?? Thanks in advance!!

Want more!! I took oodles of chick pics!! lol

What a pretty batch of babies!! Thanks for that pic. What would you characterize as things to look for in a d'uccle baby? - I noticed you said mine looked puffy bodied - are the d'uccles thinner bodied as chicks???

I have like 12 of the buff and 9 of the yellow/grey babies I was thinking if any of them were d'uccles it would be those colors since they only have porcelain, Mille and self blue - that limited what were not cochins!!

Thanks! They look a lot different now LOL!

d'Uccles are skinny, IMO. And they have round faces because of the future beards. It will be more obvious when they start to feather in because d'Uccles have vulture hocks, and those start to show up pretty early. Little banks of feathers coming off their legs. Really cool! I'll see if I can find a pic of baby vulture hocks...

... nope, couldn't find one. Will try and take one tomorrow.

This my roo when he was young, but not a chick. If you look, you can see feathers from his legs pointing away from his body. They are just above the foot feathers.

This is the same roo, mature. He has lovely foot feathers and vulture hocks. He's won every competition he's been in

I'll make it simple for you, none of those in your pics are d'uccles, no beard and no know color in d'uccles shown there, were there supposed to be, or was it just an assortment? You can see the difference in the other pic of d'uccles below yours.

Thank you BBB. The pics don't show all of them and I love a learning experience!! It is just an assortment of bantams the majority being feather legged, the choices of feather legged available were Cochin and d'Uccle so I was taking this opportuity to learn more!!

I am really enjoying the pics and learning about vulture hocks!!! Plus I get to see some beautiful birds!! Doesn't get much better than that.
