Difference Between Hatchery and Breeder Stock-Pics

By the weight - seems the smaller one is closer to the standard than the big one.
The 5 month old is pretty heavy - or is that just me?

LOL, 5.5 lbs. Yeah, that's no bantam!

It sure does sound like your small one is closer in weight, a bit light, but there are lots of other body characteristics that make them close to perfection. Your big girl there, boy, shes going to be a big one huh!

I will be showing these pullets in the spring. From what I understand, they do not look at the overall weight of the bird, they start with the appearance of the head. I have spoken to alot of judges and from what I can gather, in the asiatic class, they look for a very large head with deep sunk in eyes and a smaller comb. I feel that my new younger bird has a typier head than my smaller older one. All I know is that cochins are the best. I just love them!!

Standard 7 pounds

8 pounds = 1 pound difference

5.5 pounds = 1.5 pound difference.

I think someone rightfully pointed out that size, in many breeds are a factor , but not the only factor (though in some breeds, weight alone can cause a disqualification).

Thank you for the pictures.
