These 2 boys stay in a pen together. The darker necked boy in the back is older, lost one eye through an injury and is a BS. Can you tell me, is that why he has a darker blue neck than the younger boy in front, who is a year younger and split to Bronze? The one in front is one of my new boys and I love the green/blue shading on his neck. He is what is considered wild type but I suppose some folks just say barred wing.

I am just interested in the neck color. Does the Bronze make it a more green sheen? Or is it the BS vs barred?

I'm no expert, but I have noticed that in mine, too. Maybe they don't get the dark blue until they are older?

Okay, so more of an age thing rather than being split to Bronze probably?

This fella is the youngest of all the peas on the place and over at Steve's house (the man that gave me all the peas).

I have seen young peas at shows for sale but they did not have any neck color and I think they were more like 3-4 months old. I really haven't seen enough to know.

I am a complete novice, lol, but CT (20 months old) is much darker than P-Dawg (16 months old) and both of them are darker than my 2012 boys, but one would expect that, I guess.

Disclaimer: I am a complete novice when it comes to peafowl colors.

Yeah sometimes the older peacocks will look darker. My peacock Peep is now 2 and his blue color is starting to match that of the older peacock, that and my older peacock was recently shedding a lot of his neck feathers. The neck feathers seem to get darker in the sun and some will turn a dark blue purple color until they shed them and re-grow new ones. Maybe he just needs to shed his neck feathers?
