It's really hard to tell with mixes/mutts that young......at least for me.

If you had a group of the same pure breeds, then comparing comb growth can help determine gender before hackles and saddles grow in.

The mixes are tougher. It's hard to tell of it's a pea comb or single right in the beginning. That EE has quite the comb for it's age. Either it's a true EE and sure to be a roo or a mix with a single comb and still the possibility of a hen. Time will tell...

I have 7 of these the same age. They're all siblings. I'llupload pics in a bit.

Beautiful chickens and chicks! Love the first picture! They all look very healthy and happy

They are! Free range during the day and enjoying the heck out of life!

I have four chicks 5wk old, that are pure bred but the legs are not slate. They look yellow with some dark tint coming in. One shows darker legs than the others and one has very light legs. Is this normal and they will darken with age? Or is this a non breed standard trait?

Can you post clear, well lighted pics of the legs?

Chick #3 who wouldn't stand for full body pic.
The fourth chick succumbed to cocci :( two chicks got it only a Couple days after their first time out in the yard.
