Differences EE, Ameraucana, & Araucana * Pls post pics*

Its the fact that she has a beard and muffs that make her not an araucana, and they have green legs and are not a recognized color that make them not araucana or ameraucana. Tufts look totally different than what your birds have. Ameraucana are white skinned birds which means they will never have yellow or green legs. If your birds has yellow or green legs it is not an ameraucana but a hatchery mix breed bird. Hatcheries DO NOT carry araucana. The genetics behind them are lethal in two copies and therefor make them a difficult breed to propagate and 75% of the progeny of two purebred araucana do not meet the Standard of Perfection to be an araucana because they do not have tufts, therefor it is not worth the hassle or lack of money for hatcheries to breed and sell purebred araucana.

Here are a few of my araucana, as you can see they have tufts which are totally different that the beard and muff of your birds.

Thanks for posting pics of your beautiful birds! they are the best pictures I have seen of Araucanas. My bird is rumpless, I have never seen that in an EE? Mind you, I don't care what it is, as it's a pet. I would like feed back on whether its a boy or a girl, though, because that I do care about

She's an EE. I have 12 that look very similar to her. That coloring is an easy tell on what it is. It's not a standardized named color, it's just the camo they revert to. I got my birds from a feed store that orders from Privett Hatchery. It's a very common coloring on hatchery birds. Any chicken breed you should be told what color variety it is when you buy it. There is nothing wrong with having EEs. I have some that I love. They are very reliable layers and average 5-6 eggs a week at two years old. They out lay the wheaten ameraucana pullets and hens I have.

Your girl making it to 14 is amazing. I'd be giving her all the treats she wanted for making it to that age.

EE stands for Easter Egger.

I've had two of the hatchery girls go broody. One of them is a spaz but turned sweet while caring for chicks and eggs. The other girl has always been sweet and comes up and begs for treats for her chicks. That hen is getting a special leg band and allowed to go broody anytime she wants. When her chicks were a few days old, I put a three week old wiith her and she took it right in. I'll also be hatching some of her eggs.

My EEs are some of the most laid back birds. Never any aggression to new additions, but they assume the new birds are on the bottom. Pecking order disputes last seconds. I can put older chicks in with them without problems. I've added 7 and 9 week olds lately who've only been pecked if they try and steal food from someone's beak.

I think I'll always have some EEs. The ones I've had are hardy, good layers, and good tempered.

Purchased two "hens". Same day, age, supplier sexed as hens. One has the look of a rooster the other typical hen. At what point do we know that we in fact have a rooster instead of a hen? (Other than the first time it crows!)

Thank you for this thread! I have a splash Araucana, Easter Eggers who I thought were Araucanas, and an Ameracana. I love all of them to bits, and even more so now that I know what they really are. I got my first Easter Egger egg today, and I couldn't be happier! I have a few pictures to share that I think others would love.
