Differences EE, Ameraucana, & Araucana * Pls post pics*

Pics
EEs can look like anything... EEs don't even have to lay blue eggs, some lay brown.

So.... Pea combs are common with EEs, (because it is a dominant trait, and found in all Ameraucanas), but some EEs have single combs, or rose combs, or whatever.

Since Pea Comb is dominant, she could have used a pure Ameraucana as the cock, that is not pure for pea comb... And not KNOW he is not pure for pea comb, until she does test mating.

Ditto all of the above for the cute fuzzy faces.

If they all hatched from blue eggs, since the blue egg is dominant, they WILL all carry at least one blue egg gene.

This means that the girls will lay blue eggs if the sire had only blue egg genes or if the sire had white egg genes.

The girls will lay green eggs if the sire had any brown egg genes.

The males that you raised might have only one copy of the blue egg gene (you know they have one copy, since they hatched from a blue egg), and they might have two copies of the blue egg gene.

As to the colors you got....

The first photo is a very typical EE color.

The second photo is a cuckoo pattern and that is a dominant color pattern.

The last one looks like maybe a blue. Blue is a nice gene since only one copy makes the color blue (the gene doesn't hide). Two copies of the blue gene make the color splash.

As to sex.. I am not good at that... Maybe repost those photos, and add a good side shot, and a good shot of the base of the neck area, and maybe one if the face and comb, over on the "what breed or sex are these" section.

The first photo looks like some curving tail feathers are coming in.... So a male.... But just a guess.

Welcome to BYC!

No EE is 'standard'...they are always a 'mix', 'mutt', 'cross'.....whatever you want to call it, so there is no standard plumage.

The fact that they hatched from blue eggs mean they have a 50% chance of carrying at least one 'blue egg' gene and will lay a blue shell base color.

...but...

Sorry, but I'm afraid all 3 birds are cockerels.
The first one has a triple or modified peacomb, almost always male...and comb has too much color at 8 weeks to be a pullet.
The second one, obviously male....probably a barred rock sire.
Third one is a toss up, but also appears to have a triple peacomb.

EE's can be hard to gender until crow or hackle/saddle feathers show at about 3-4 months old.

ETA: #2 cockerel could have had a cuckoo marans as sire.

Aart... I was thinking Dominique, not Barred Rock.. Since that posted photo looks more cuckoo than barred.... (But Cuckoo Marans is also a possibility)

However.. I have never crossed a barred chicken.. So I don't how that would change things.

Thanks Alaskan and Aart for the much needed feedback. I'm really hoping they're NOT all roosters... I've provided a few more pics in hopes of giving better detail and angle. Please excuse the use of my flat screen as a roost... These guys are still in the brooder for a few more days and the t.v. was the most accommodating item for the pictures. LOL

Thanks again for your feedback, time, and assistance!

Ha! I didn't even see your post this morning when I replied then ETA'd.
What ever the barring came from....that's a boy, so moot IMO.

I stand by my guesses.....that light one is a toss up(comb lighter in last pic) comb color can fade and flare with exertion, stress, excitement.

Glad I found your "old" post, I bought what I was told were Ameraucana chicks but now inclined to say they must be EEs. What ever they are, they are very docile compared to the 2 RIR that are supposedly the same hatch date. Dusk & Tawny have the slate colored legs, a bit of ear tuff not so pronounced as Topaz, the first "Ameraucana" I had which I think was an EE too (same breeder). Your post is very informative with pictures, thanks. Love them all anyway, personalities +

Those are very lovely chickens! :D They are EEs.

Hi. So I know my hen is an EE, but is she a lavender wheaten? Thanks.
She is mostly buff with some grey hackle feathers and tail feathers. Her breast feathers are cream. I have seen some birds like her, but I do not know the color. Sorry. I thought I knew genetics

The hen directly above is not mine, but looks close to my Freedom. Any comments?
