Different looking RIRs

Oh My God!!!!

What a heck is she/he? I have been thinking that she/he is not a rooster because she/he does not have spurs in her/his legs and she/he is not crowing! But you say that she/he could still be a rooster!? Really!!!!

Here is Blondies head (she was a blond with blue eyes as a chick). The photo was taken more than a week ago. Now the comb and wattles look even larger!

May be she/he is a cross of something. Or could she/he be a New Hampshire indeed. In my chicken breed book the chicken looks very much like her. Do they need to have yellow legs? Blondies legs are white.

THANKS for the advice,

Suvi from NC

I don't know about all of that...but I got Ruby/Rudy back in June this year and the man I bought he/she from said she was a hen...Rudy just started crowing in the past couple of weeks(after I culled 5 roosters out) got his confidence up I guess & now he crows...as far as spurs go everything I read roosters start growing spurs around 7-8 months which Rudy is now doing! Good Luck!

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

So when do roosters normally start crowing? Or is HE going to start crowing at all because I already have an OE Game Bantam rooster who crows a lot in the mornings? Is there going to be a fight btw these two roosters?

THANKS!

Blondie/Butch is not a NH, but could be a cross between a NH and a white skinned/legged breed. Any of the red breeds have yellow legs(unless I've forgotten one). My RIR/Buff Orp hen has white because white skin is dominant and her legs are white with a red wash down the front. What white skinned breeds did this person have? Could you ask him/her?

Hi,
I think that I am going to e-mail to this man who sold me these two "hens". I am just upset because I am very attached to Blondie and Sugar and not sure if I can keep them anymore... I wanted to have two good laying hens. The other chicken are OE Game Bantams and Polish Cresteds and they are not layers...

Is a BIG rooster going to be nice to my tiny OE Game Bantam rooster and his hens? At the moment Blondie and Sugar run away if the OEGB or Silkie approaches them.

Thanks again,

Suvi

I have a BBRed OEGame pair myself and they are in their own seperate covered pen for 2 reasons...1st reason is to keep them pure and 2nd reason is I hear BBRed rooosters will fight any rooster in their path(and usually wins) so I have no problems like that. They try to fight with a fence between them though. Good Luck!

Roosters crow at different ages. My latest one, however, was at 18 weeks. Before that, at 15 weeks. I've heard of some not crowing till close to a year old. If a lesser ranking rooster crows, it draws the attention of other roosters, and that may not be what they want. They may get along till he crows and then the dominant rooster will assert his place at the head of the flock, so yes, they could fight, but it may not be really terrible.

Here is 2 of my roosters, the black one is Blackie, the redish one is Rudy...they aren't quite a year old yet and Rucy just started crowing(he was a late bloomer) anyway he looked just like your blondie up until a couple of months ago and his coloring started
changing and BTW he was sold as a RIR hen to me, now look at him!
It does happen! Give the guy a chance, I am glad I did with Rudy as
he is a big baby now!
