Oh geeze! I thought I narrowed down my choices for this years order to BR and Wyandottes, but those Orpingtons seem cool, too!

Orpington is cold hardy!

you would have no problem with girls comb (they are small)

as for the boys dubing them looks pretty easy!

I have pulled up a few articles on it just to be ready!

It gets really cold here but, they say not to do until they get frost bite!

Buckeye (Pea comb) are also supose to be very docile Meyers in ohio says theirs will give you a egg a day!

I would have to agree with you, handsomeness wise.

I'm just a little south of you and my two Buff Orpingtons seem to do quite well in the cold. I've never had Wyandottes of any color but they are one breed I'm considering adding to our little flock at some point.

I wanted to get some Orpingtons, but since I live in MA when it's cold, I decided that they might not do well in the cold weather. I can't do Silkies because they often go broody. Since Cochins have feathers on their feed, I can't do that, either...

I've got Buff Orpingtons and live on the South Shore of MA, they do just fine in the cold weather. They're laying nice eggs for us, too! I've got GLWs and they're nice birds, also, not quite as friendly as the BOs or the EEs, for that matter, but definitely tame.

Mine too. They're nice and friendly too.

I dont know about the small combs, my orpingtons combs are HUGE, you would think they were roo's. Even still I dont have trouble with frostbite and it gets pretty cold here by the lake!

I have had both SLW and GLW and they both have the same temper, but I do think the GLW's are prettier. If you want some birds that are pretty to look at, I really wouldnt recommend getting ur GLW's from McMurray, as they have very poor quality birds. Ive had good success with Meyer Hatchery.

Now why dont you want Cochins? I have some standard Blue's that are just gorgeous. Feathers on their feet arent a problem as long as you dont have them living in a swamp. They dont break off as easily as you think.
