How many weeks after hatching can you securely determine which of your chicks is developing as pure Coronation Sussex vs Coronation/Light sussex split when you are working with a mixture of known pure and split eggs. The eggs are not labeled of course. LOL. Just date layed. This is I problem I hope to have starting 18 days from now. Hatching fingers crossed.

About 2-3 weeks, once they start getting feathers at the base of their necks. One of the last places to get feathers of course.

I'll see if I can get a couple of them to pose later to show the difference.

Did anyone figure out how to tell the difference of pure coro chicks? Some of my chicks have a darker yellow color to them behind the head/back area than the other and I'm sure it's because of being a split or pure but I can't figure it out and have searched for pics on this. Can someone help????

You need to wait until they get some hackle feathers. Pure chicks will have lavender and split/light chicks will have black. You can't tell the difference by the down color.
