Okay she made me sick before this and now I am on full blown yak mode.

If they do it there is a good chance they will be fined or worse, if HIS government gets its way. In the House right now is HR 875 which will effectively ban backyard gardening, meat raising and so forth.

Check it out for yourself,

Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (Introduced in House)[H.R.875.IH]

The Bill enter a search for HR 875 dated 01/01/2008 - 03/18/2009 you will find the entire Bill there.

Pay special attention to:

Section 3 which is the definitions portion of the bill-read in it's entirety.
section 103, 206 and 207- read in it's entirety.

Red flags I am sure there are more...........

Legally binds state agriculture depts to enforcing federal guidelines effectively taking away the states power to do anything other than being food police for the federal dept.

Effectively criminalizes organic farming but doesn't actually use the word organic.

Effects anyone growing food even if they are not selling it but consuming it.

Effects anyone producing meat of any kind including wild game.

Legislation is so broad based that every aspect of growing or producing food can be made illegal. There are no specifics which is bizarre considering how long the legislation is.

Section 103 is almost entirely about the administrative aspect of the legislation. It will allow the appointing of officials from the factory farming corporations and lobbyists and classify them as experts and allow them to determine and interpret the legislation. Who do you think they are going to side with?

Section 206 defines what will be considered a food production facility and what will be enforced up all food production facilities. The wording is so broad based that a backyard gardener could be fined and more.

Section 207 requires that the state's agriculture dept act as the food police and enforce the federal requirements. This takes away the states power and is in violation of the 10th amendment.

Section 202 reads:

SEC. 202. REGISTRATION OF FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS AND FOREIGN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS.

(a) In General- Any food establishment or foreign food establishment engaged in manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding food for consumption in the United States shall register annually with the Administrator.

Read the whole thing, Parag 13 and 14 exempt farms from registering.

Now the Pres can't grow a garden? I hate Bush but I wouldn't have criticized a garden. Maybe Obama is setting an example. During WWII they had victory gardens. Same concept maybe.

HIS govt will get their way. Just like Bush always got his way till his rubber stamp Congress got voted out.

By the way if you look at your post you will note that the BILL was originated in March 2008. That was before HIS government.

Instead of complaining write your congressman and demand a well defined exemption for small farms and hobby farms. It's a lot more effective than complaining. His govt knows how to read and might just read your request.

Democrats represented the working man for many years. There's a lot more dirt under Democratic nails than Republicans.

Like your avatar by the way.

50 days in office and he's to blame for the economy? Time for a reality check. There's a forest behind those tree's somewhere.

I just logged onto the presidential website clicked "contact us" and sent them an e-mail stating in so many words that they should raise a few chickens for the same reasons they are growing vegitables. AND I did mention that they make great pets, educational for the kids, and foster responsibility if the kids take care of them.

I suggest everyone do the same...If enough people send e-mails they may, just may, get the point and at least mention BYC.

Great idea. But we also need to add that if they get a dog it should be a GP so it will help watch the chickens.
