Dilemma About An Outdoor Cat Hanging Around My House..

The thing that I would do is to trap him and have him scanned for a microchip (unlikely), make sure he is neutered, and put a collar on him with your name and number. I have done this with many cats that appear here. I must have a sign by my mailbox! If he does belong to someone they will phone you the next time he comes home and then you can decide what to tell them. I have 10 in the house and have not picked a single one of them! I have only one feral in the barn for mouse control...I think she has "friends" around lately...they seem to show up this time of year.
THe most important thing is to make sure the animal is altered...dont need any more running around! Terri O

(PS) did the cat kill the parakeet or was it awaiting burial? Just curious...

Hi! Thanks for the advice everyone!
I think this is what i will do.. trap him... check him over good. (cant really afford a vet bill right now) But IF he seems ill i will have bring him in to be put down. I just really cant afford it right now.
But if hes healthy looking, i will set him up and try to keep him warm this winter until i can get him seen by a vet eventually..
So... i think we will trap him... and set him up in a small shed we have (4x6) it was a coop/goose house before. Now hubby just has some bags of feed in it.
And whomever thought of the heat light, good idea! I can run an extension cord and set him up with a light...
So hubby has the next 2 days off... we'll try to catch him then..
Havent seen him today though... hope a fox, coyote, or fisher cat didnt get him.

About the parakeet.. i have no idea where he came from! It was the strangest thing...it was just dead on my back poarch... Weird!

I'm thinking someones pet got loose and maybe lived through the summer, but its been pretty cold lately so i'm thinking he got weak/sick and the cat caught him??
