I have a hen who has been having trouble walking. She mostly hops on one leg, and I believe the other is broken. I heard that they will heal themselves, but she’s been laying on her side a lot, and I’m worried it may impact how her leg bones mend. Anyway, she is a hatchery quality black link, so about the size of a Plymouth, and she is one year old. I would measure her to get dimensions for her wheelchair/ sling, but I don’t want to stress her out. Does anyone know how big I should make her wheelchair/ how long she should be in it each day/ how I can make it tomorrow in shop class?

Edit to say she is isolated in the coop, as I think it is safer for her in that condition, and all my able bodied hens roost in the trees.

Consider one of these. Purchase, or make. Then figure out a frame with casters to support this hammock. This way chicken can move around. The hammock will keep pressure/weight off the injured foot.

you could use one of those hammocks and the hang it on those dog lines that people attach their dogs to and the the chicken could just walk up and down with that but have pressure taken off her leg
