A chicken can die for many reasons, a necrospy is usually the only way to find out why.
Generally, an unhealthy bird will not lay.

Yeah... I have no idea why she died. I know people do necropsy but I couldn't bring myself to do that. Plus I have no clue what I'm doing anyways so I thought it better not to go there.

You can send them to state labs for necropsies. It's ok though. Where did you get your hen? She looks barred in her hackles, I would guess definitely a mix.

I'm in Canada... I have no idea if they do stuff like that here. I'd have to look into that. The hens came with the place I bought, that's why I don't know much about their breeds or ages.

I don't think I could slaughter unless I was starving to death. I'm weak Especially animals I've been caring for. I have developed relationships with these ladies and I couldn't imagine eating them. Being an animal lover AND a meat eater I have to be careful not to think too much about these things.. hah.
