Should I place a dirt tray in the duck run because my females seem to like to forge? They keep poking their heads out of the run to eat dirt. I feel bad for not giving them any dirt. They are also molting too I think? One of them is losing some feather on their belly.

I give mine a mud tub when I have to put them in their room while at work. They have a blast making a mess with it. When they were ducking's I would give them dirt from the garden and they loved that too. If you are up to the effort I'm sure they would like it.

I have 2 khaki campbell hens. They are 1 year old. They have a large pen and run and get to free range daily. But while I work and over night they stay in their safe room. I only work a couple days a week so they aren't always in their room. However I feel bad and try to give them as much outside as I can. I don't buy any grit. But I have added fresh sand to the pen in a small area due to mud and I give them a few shovels full of good garden soil with water over top. Yummy they love it lol. I have some old wood with leaves around it and I dig there as it's full of worms and snails.

Do you provide them with grit?

How many do you have, and how big is the run?

If they want dirt, give them dirt.
I'm not sure how big it is but it's big enough for three muscovies to run around freely. I've also installed a large swimming tub but the females only enjoy it. There is no grit in the run but patches of dirt they like to nibble on..
