The chicken tractor has 55 soft. 10x5.5. So 2.2sqft per bird. I'm feeding them naturewise meatbird food 22% protein. Thought maybe it was the food

40 birds in 55 sq ft is 1.375 sq ft per bird. Unless I misread your flock count, above?

Sorry, your second post "room for 40" stuck in my head, not your first post "we have 25". I'll step off, lack of space was my first thought, but I've no direct experience with that management method - I free range acres.

An adult, standard-size hen needs 4 square feet in the coop.

Your meaties are youngsters, but they are physically larger than an adult, dual-purpose hen and you've got them in half the space.

Do you have any ability to let them roam outside the tractor? In a temporary fence of some kind, perhaps?
