Dirty butt

Hi.

One of my chickens has a severely dirty 'butt', just under the vent area.
It's thick and a mustard colour.

She also is acting a little strange and this morning didn't go after the treat seed a chucked in for girls and just stood there looking at me .

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you bring her in to a warm room and soak just her bottom in a pan of warm soapy water for 15 minutes and get her cleaned off? Trim any excess fluff down there. When dry, get a closeup picture. It would be good to see a sample or two of her droppings, to see if she is having yellow urates or yellow liquid coming out. How old is she and has she been laying eggs? Has she lost weight? Note during her soak if she has any enlargement of her lower belly under her vent. Look for missing feathers or burned skin around her vent. Some possible issues could be reproductive infection or water belly.

Does she have mites? When my wyandottes had mites their butts were quite dirty. It is a side effect. Eggcessive had some good ideas too!

She's around 2 now. No weight loss although I have noticed fewer eggs in general lately.
