Dirty, DISGUSTING flooring for my new babies.

No kidding... It's been cold lately (where in Ca are you?) but geez... if it gets any warmer, get them outside when they start to feather. You can keep a little heat lamp on them if you want, but they may not even need it.

Yeah in california - BOOT em out at 4 weeks! Its warm enough!

4 weeks ??

It's pretty cool here, this week ..... just 60 degrees, in Los Angeles county !!!!

Last week when they were shipped, it was 95 degrees !!! That kind of weather would have been great for exercise in the yard during the day for the babies ..... too cold right now, however

LOL - harsh I suppose, but the weekend they went outside - the temp reached 97+ and we they were in the run as we finished the coop. But we are getting payback this Memorial Day Weekend, it is cloudy and even rainy. But better than sweating like last weekend. Not so good for some pool parties that were planned, like the BD party my daughter was expecting - the parents rented one of those jump things instead.

Born and raised second generation San Diegan - don't know what I would do anywhere else!

Yes, it has been cool this week after the weekend of HOT weather, so the Delightful Dozen have been kept in the coop when it gets cold but allowed out into the run when there is sun and not too much of a breeze. They are loving it, I now have 3 hens that don't run from me and allow me to pick them up. I also have most of them running to me when I call "chick, chick, chick" and give them a treat like cooked rice or pasta, very little but just enough to intrigue them. Chickens are sooo addicting - Chicken TV is great, no reruns!

I used pine shavings the second day as they had tore up the paper towel i had in there and were all sleeping in the pine shavings! I just let them be...they didn't eat tho..they would run around the brooder and the others would try to take it away. Very funny to watch! I stir mine every morning and will change the whole thing once a week. I have not noticed a smell at all yet and the litter always seems to look pretty clean considering I have 24 in there!

I went to the Pet Store and looked at the Pine Shaving Litter ...
there seems to be so much dust and little teeny bits with it, that I opted out ....
I now have shredded paper in the cage (????)

I still have to change the shredded paper every day.
Maybe I am just overly cautious / paranoid about the little bits.

The babies are just 1 wk old now .... 12 baby frizzles ...... soooo cute!
