I have a 5 week old Bantam Cochin MF Chick who has not been able to walk since birth. I have tried everything that I can think of to help her, but am not an expert by any means! (I am pretty confidant its a hen) Due to my insane situation...a wife to a military man who is gone A LOT, a mom to 3 VERY active children (one of which is Autistic), plus my many many other demands....I cannot take care of her any longer. She requires more attention than I have to offer. I do not WANT to cull her, but will if no one wants to give her a new home. She is very sweet and eats/drinks well. Just cannot walk. Anyway...just wanted to put this out there in case anyone with a big heart and more time than I have would like to try with her. Here is her picture:

I am happy to ship her if you pay 1/2 of shipping. (And when the weather cools a little.) I am willing to drive a bit from my South Jersey home to meet you. I just want her to have a happy, healthy home...which is more than I can give at this time. It breaks my heart to cull her, but I don't know what else to do. PM me!! Thanks!

Looks like she has spraddle leg. I had a goose with it once. Take some of that self adhesive bandage tape (it sticks to itself and nothing else) and wrap it around her "shins" so that her legs are a normal width apart. It could take a few days but hopefully it will fix her so you don't have to cull her.

I tried to do Spraddle leg braces for her twice. Once for a week, then again a second time for 5 days. It didn't work unfortunately. Her other leg is starting to turn as well now. Thank you so much for the advice though! :)

I live basically 2 hours away from you. IF you cannot find anybody else to take her, I think we might possibly be able to. But how does she eat and drink? Do you have to keep her by it, or..... can she like, I don't know, wiggle around? And I would also have to ask my parents. But I'm sure they would understand.

ETA~
I also have 4 chicks who are 4 weeks old as of today, so she could probably fit right in.

I am afraid that she will be picked on by other chicks due to her weakness. She can kind of get around a little...by flapping her wings. I make sure she is fed and watered several times daily though by putting her near the food/water.

I have wondered if it was something like that, but have no idea how to tell or how to fix it if it is. :-(
One leg is going out to the side, the opposite foot it twisting. I thought maybe it was due to the way she is using it to compensate for the problem leg? Maybe not. I really don't know. Poor thing.

Have you tried helping her move both of her legs as if she were walking? Sometimes that may help if you do it everyday for like 10 minutes. Unfortunately I live too far away and can't take her. :(
