"Discarded egg" started to peep.......OK to put it back under Mom?

Quote:
Yes! That's exactly what I meant. You never know what somebody might do, especially when they're upset, and may not be quite on top of it...

I hope the chick's ok. Slowing down and less peeping may not mean anything except he's tired and needs a nap. They do sleep at night, usually, anyway, and take naps in the daytime.
Only time will tell. Try to be patient.

UPDATE:

I had to help the baby out of the shell with tweezers and warm water mist this morning, but it is alive and doing OK now in a little brooder box. There was no way that the chickie would have made it on its own as it was too big for the egg, neck and beak twisted under the wing, it just looked terrible when it was out and I wished I would have never interfered. But this afternoon it looks like any other newborn chick, fully fluffed out and peeping. Even the navel does not look bad. First I thought the yolk sac was not completely absorbed, but everything looks just fine.
Now I guess that we will face our next challenge to introduce it to Moma hen or better sneak it under her in the middle of the night. Keep your fingers crossed for us that everything will go well. Any suggestions on how to sneak it under her with success?

I havent tried it yet, but from what I have read, you just kinda lift her and stick it under. I dont know that there is any better way.

I don't even lift mom. I just reach in behind her with the chick, and slip it in underneath her, at night. Works fine! She'll never know the difference between that one and the others that hatched.

I'm not hatching chicks right now but i just wanted to post way to go on getting the chick to survive and hope all goes well with the transfer to mama!

Congratulations! I'm so glad that the chick is ok.

Nature took its course: before I even had a chance to put it with Moma hen, the chickie died last night. Sad, but probably what it was meant to be.
Thank God I know, that it did not die because I cracked the egg. It did not develop right in the egg in the first place.
