Hello all. Hoping someone can help me. I have 4 hens which im relatively new to keeping. The last couple months they all have patches of feathers missing generally around necks and bottoms. I have noticed some pecking so think this is the reason behind baldness. This morning however i noticed a cream coloured discharge seeping from vent. She still seems to be eating and drinking but not as much as usual. I have cleaned the area with salty water and isolated her in a small cage for now. What could this be and how do i treat?

Does she always have the seepage or is it brand new? She may have an egg that has broken inside. Something you can do is put on a rubber glove, lubricate the finger, and insert it into vent to gently feel around for an egg or shell. If present try to gently remove any of it. Soak her bottom in warm soapy water, dry her off, and not what the vent area looks like after she is dry. A picture might help. If you see redness or white/yellow patches she probably does have vent gleet. Monistat, Nustock (from the feedstore) or other antifungal creams help as well as feeding some plain yogurt every couple of days, along with apple cider vinegar in the water 1 TB per gallon.
