Disciplining your birds????

To expand on this previous post, if someone's family can either enjoy the meat I do not want and feed their family, then I am happy with that outcome. If they see my roosters as a basis for a breeder program then that is a win as well. Once I decided I am done with them it is hard to find an outcome that is undesireable for the rehomed birds.

Free gratis Gallo works well where I am.

Wow, I'm shocked! I didn't know people actually disciplined their chickens! Once my chickens was chasing after my other one and I tried to stop her by gently pushing her away then I accidently tripped on her and I felt soo bad! I held her for 15 minutes holding and petting her.
It's not often necessary with anything other than hormonal cockerels, but I did have a biting pullet once. I knocked her back into shape and she became a lovely lap-sitting sweetie.

Getting the odd peck on the pinkies is a right of passage. It only normally happens if the hens feel I'm invading there space. They do like my nice shiny ring too! But there is always a reason behind why chickens act as they do. They don't know if there behaviour is good or bad it is all on instinct for them. So can't really discipline a chicken in a way that we understand, more like train it's instincts.

Oh yeah they like shiny! My wedding band is of great interest to the occasional chicken beak too!

Guys, guys, guys! you realize these people are probably "disciplining" their birds because that's either the way they've been taught and that's what they find works in their case, or they're just afraid or don't want to haul off and "discipline" with the ax and crock pot. There's no need to judge or gossip. Just be nice to your birds.
Life's too short for putting up with inferior, aggressive roosters, and for gossiping and backbiting. It makes you a worse person.

Sorry to disagree I just have no reason to ever put my chicken in a rear naked choke hold. If that works for you....

Woah, that's not what I said. Re-read that for a second once you've cooled your jets.
My jets are cool and I have read your post in its entirety. If someone doesn't like their chicken, cull, eat or rehome it. I am not trying to be confrontational.

---edit------ I totally agree with your lifes too short to tolerate that crap!

It's a discussion on an Internet forum about disciplining hen/cockeral in a manner the constitutes cruelty. Did you read the op post with the transcript of owner hitting his/ her birds, grabbing around neck until eyes are popping out hitting with a shovel breaking legs do you want me to go on? We have expressed outrage and I would quite happily express my thoughts in said abuser face to face just so I wouldn't be accused of stabbing in back. If the animals are judged to be out of control and need to be culled then so be it. So long as it is humanely . I am only replying to information that has been put on forum for discussion. If information is incorrect than I apologise. But I cannot apologise for someone's behaviour if this is true.

Rachel, we can always agree to disagree but now that I am retired I refuse to take any guff from either man or beast! That is just where I am coming from and apologies for coming out the gate like a charging bull.
