First time chicken owner. I did the covid chicks, got 3, then added 2 more a couple of months later. Had a big hurricane hit. Knocked fences down. Coop ok but yard was a mess. Ended up with one of the latter either injured or sick (wobbly and her wings were kinda stuck out). She lived for a few months, then died😭. I tried corid in her water, vitamins. We still hadn’t been able to fully integrate the 2 sets of chickens. So one pullet was left by herself. She got wobbly, so I put her in my fenced off garden with a makeshift (unsecure)coop. Gave her medicated chick feed, did a few corid waters, dusted her with the ashy diat?...earth stuff (in case she had mites or worms...then an animal killed her 2 nights ago. We don’t have a lot of predators? Raccoons and possums sometimes. Now my 2 older hens and accidental rooster have what appears to be avian pox. Their combs are spotted and one of the hen’s combs even looks deformed now??? I’m really failing here. What can I do to help them? Thanks :(

I can’t help you with the fowl pox. But there must be an article somewhere explaining what you can do.

How sad to have to deal with so many losses. It happens more often then you can imagine with newbies taking care of chickens.

I had lots of losses in the first year too. Most of the chicks I bought died or turned out to be roosters while I ordered only pullets. That’s why I started reading 📖 a lot about keeping chickens, chicken diseases, chicks 🐣 broodies, coops, runs , ventilation, predators, free ranging....etc. I suppose it helped me a lot. After that first year I only had one casualty.

Unfortunately these things happen please dont let it put u off u doing everything u can and u obv love them do they have a coop and run or do they always free range we all here to help with anything u need. I brought a book called raising chickens for dummies thats also really helpful to me xxx
Thank you! They have a coop and a run we close them in at night. They free range in a section of our yard all day. I’ll try this book. The one I have doesn’t go into to much detail on disease. We have plenty of mosquitos where we live, so I’m guessing that’s how they got this. I’ll monitor. Hopefully the eggs that my one pullet started laying are ok to eat. 😳

I’ll keep researching and learning. Thank you :)
