*discription of symptoms* me and my mom got very sick

The only time I know I've gotten food poisoning it was also cold pizza.....
By the time I got the last bite down good, probably 5 minutes later it all came back up. That was that for me though. I guess my body threw it back out before it had a chance to really make me any sicker.

DH had a deli sandwich from WalMart the other night, and immediately after he got sick, so again I think it was the sandwich. However, he got sick off and on a few times over the next couple of days, so his body must not have gotten all the germs out on the first try.
Different people's bodies handle it better than others, which is probably why your mom only threw up once and you were more sick.

I would also suspect it was the pizza for you, since as you say, you and your mom both ate it and got sick at the same time right afterward.

Sounds like food poisoning. I'd take the last of that pizza to the health department to be tested for ickies just because I'm weird and would want to know. besides if it is possibly food poisoning THEY would want to know too. That whole protect the public thing

As fast as it came on, and as severe, with the difference between you and your mom as far as symptoms, plus dad with nothing, and having not eaten it...food poisoning is likely. Glad you got over it and didn't have to be hospitalized for dehydration!! Keep as many fluids in you as possible for the next few days to regain what fluids you lost. Dehydration is still a possibility if you don't get your fluid levels back up. Sorry you were sick!

It may have been food poisoning but that usually take 12 to 24 hours to show up Maybe the reason why you were so much sicker is that you have a senitive tummy like my daughter. If we all get a tummy bug she will be sicker. Once her tummy gets upset its hard for it to settle. She will vomit til dehydrated. Many times I have had to take her to the ER for fluids cause she couldnt keep anything down. Now doc gives her phenergan (sp) and if it gets out of wack she can take these and her tummy calms down. Really to me sounds more like a bug.

This is great advice. If you'd gone to the hospital they would have given IV fluids -- but drinking Gatorade is essentially the same thing, and a lot cheaper. Often works for muscle cramps and other things. Just a matter of our letting our electrolytes get a little low for whatever reason, including not eating /drinking properly, or exertion. Vomiting/diarrhea will deplete electrolytes amazingly quickly. There's a reason athletes drink stuff like it instead of water.

Years ago I worked with a surgeon who would order one ounce of Gatorade every hour for several hours after abdominal surgery. One ounce is little enough that it is absorbed way before it gets to the small intestine, so does not contribute to postop gas. It was obvious to us all that this was a great way to help people's guts to recover quickly.
