Oh Sol2go---

There are times - as you noted in above posts - when I am a plumb awful communicator.

He's fine - he's out there crowing his head off right now.

Hi ChicKat,

more like I missed the obvious chicken/sunshine relationship and went straight to worry, worry, worry...

@chickenpicken how's the weather up your way?

It is pretty chilly. Current temp it 31 degrees that is the high for today. for this past week I have had to bring in all waters and water buckets to thaw out and refill with warm water each morning and truck them back out. Nine waters in total .

I will think sunny thoughts for you as I walk back and forth to the hose...

I then planned to continue the 55 flowery project using legbars and anconas but then GFF imported some (then wrote up a false story about this being the first time the breed has been in the US) so I gave up for now.
you should have Never stopped the project as I am sure your efforts would have produced better quality than they can produce, heck they never imported the 55 Flowery leghorns in the first place, maybe you got confused? they imported the Swedish Flower Hens http://greenfirefarms.com/store/category/chickens/swedish-flower-hens/ as theirs dont look as the description on how the 55 Flowery Leghors should look..

here is how true 55 Flowery chicks look..

They have them listed under 'new arrivals'. It says this is the first time they have been in the US but there used to be a large commercial flock in California and I thought a university had some as well. I can still make them using legbars and anconas, just might take longer.

Sorry to keep getting off track

in any case I am sure a good backyard breeder like yourself will have better quality than much of the birds GFF are producing

Hope everyone's Thanksgiving Holiday was as wonderful as mine....and this is the time of year when things get crazy busy---so we may have little time to spend on the forum.

Seems that there has been adequate time to investigate if there is any correlation between the legs and the color saturation - and legs - as has been pointed out are influenced by a lot of factors.

My once gold-looking hackled is now white-looking hackled rooster since he has completed the molt on his hackles - I will need to post a shot here.

Here is my next suggestion - lets focus next on the breast feathers of the male and female - to see if there is any variation between those that we think are cream SOP draft matches and those that we think are not cream SOP draft matches. Toward the end of the year I will put up another summary of what if anything we have discovered since the last summary in this thread.

Thanks all.

There is no correlation between shank color and feather pigmentation in this case dermal/epidermal pheomelanin and feather pheomelanin While some factors like food intake may affect them both at the same time one cant not expect to have rich colored(on the feathers) chicks if their shank color is rich yellow, as Silver leghorns do have rich colored yellow shanks, And Buff Orps have White shanks..
