Does anyone know what this could be on my rooster's comb? At first I thought he had been pecked when I first saw this about 5 days ago. For a few days I put antibiotic ointment on it. But now I think it must be something different as there has been no improvement. I am very worried.

In the first four photos, which was 5 days ago, I unfortunately had already applied the ointment before I took the pictures, Which made things look a little better.
The rest of the photos are from tonight. I did not apply ointment today.

It does look like a scab from picking or he scuffed it on something.
Watch to see if your hens are picking at it. This is usually not an "attack picking" on the hen's part, usually it's 1-2 "favorite" hens or 1 that gives him attention. He will stand there and actually let her/them pick at the scab, which of course makes it worse:hmm
At least that is what I have observed with 2 different roosters of mine.

The only way I found to clear it up was to separate him until it heals. You can try pick no more or something similar to see if that discourages picking.

Thanks for responding.
I only have the rooster and a hen. I have never seen the hen peck him. The scabs never look look like a fresh peck. Never bleeding. They are always dry. So I just can't be sure it is from her. Though I hope that is all this is.
I've looked up things on the internet but can't find anything to match it to.

It looks like scabs, he may have rubbed it on something. Does your run have wire large enough for him to stick his head through?
Put a little pick no more or blu kote on the scabs. If the hen doesn't pick at them, they should heal up in several weeks.

I tried to figure out if there was something he could have scraped it on as well. I couldn't imagine anything looking at his living area. But anything can be possible... I will look for the things you mentioned. I wondered if it could be fowl pox. But there are no mosquitoes around here right now because it is winter. I haven't noticed any insects around. I also wondered if it is fungal.

Do you have any tiny biting insects out where you live right now? The black dots look like fly bites. But pecks can look the same. I think the peeling is just the skin healing.

It is winter where I am at right now. But I just wondered could fleas do this?

I wonder if fleas could do this? I do bring him inside at night and I do have dogs. I haven't seen any fleas on the dogs. they are treated with a preventative. But I have been told that fleas hide well in a house in the winter.
