Please help! I have a hen who has developed some black scabs on her comb and wattle. I researched Avian Pox and I don't think that is what she has.

She has had a eye condition since she was young. Her left eye is consistently watering, and she closes it a lot. It has never seemed to bother her; she is active, eats well, and acts as a normal chicken. Most of the scabs are on the left side, with only a small one on her right.

I thought is may be pecking, as the other birds would aim for the watering eye, but I spend a lot of time with them, and have not noticed the other two going after it.

I first noticed this a couple days ago, and thought it was dirt. I caught her up this morning for a closer look and could scrape the scabs off, but the black spots are on the skin underneath the scabs too.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Those are pretty small, so they may just be bug bites or minor injuries. Fowl pox starts with pustules before they scab over. Looks just like human chicken pox.

Thanks! She seemed fine again today. The scabs remain, but they don't appear to have gotten worse.
