The chicks are suffering though. Chicks die, it's a part of life. But crowded conditions do nothing but worsen the rate

If they're dying from lack of space then yes, they're suffering a lot.
And you should find ASAP a temporary solution to give more space to the chicks, until you build the new coop.

Be serious. You can’t have 43 chicks in a 1x3 space without them having to stand on each other’s backs. Unless you can provide pics of them, all nice and happy, I refuse to believe they are living happy lives. Or that those lives will be long.

43 chicks in an 1x3?!
That's the space for 6 chicks (and just for the first 2-3 weeks)
They need something like 7 times bigger (like 7x3 or better if a bit bigger like 6x4). If they'll stay for more time in the brooder they'll need something like 40-45 sqft, so like a 6x7 or 5x8.
In that box I don't even know how they can walk without trampling the others and how they can reach food and water.
I feel so bad for these chicks

If you haven't already, expand that brooder! If you can't find anything else, get some cardboard boxes.

Whether you're 9-15, your parents should be the ones making sure things are setup properly before getting a bunch of chicks. This is pure ignorance on their part. Try to follow the advice given here to the best of your ability. We will help you as much as we can.
