Disgusted and angry....

When prints are in damp ground they leave an imprint bigger than normal. I believe One dog could do this extent of damage if it had a couple of hours with nobody there to stop it.
I'm not familiar with wolves, but would think that they would carry them off rather than kill and leave them. It looks to me like dogs that were having fun chasing the self-propelled squeaky toys.

Very discouraging and I've had it happen many times.
I haven't read all posts but in a day time attack, my first vote is dog/s.
Coyote or wolf are possible but I've never had them kill so many without eating much. That is the modus operandi of dogs, especially pet dogs that aren't real hungry. I'd look at your neighbors that let dogs run loose.

I have several game cameras around on my property. Particularly at night I see coyotes, fox, possums, coons, rabbits, cats and dogs once in a great while. I have electric around my pens, heavy duty netting cover all of the pens, concrete under all of the gates and the game cameras, which I check daily. Right now the birds here aren't eager to go out in the pasture and free range. No shade and it's been hot out. They would rather stay in their pens under their shade trees or their rain/shade tables. This owl killed several birds that were in my two coops that are open on one side. I have since put tarps over the open sides and netting over all of the pens.

There was a person who's birds were being killed by a neighbors dog. She had seen the dog on her property. She went to talk to the neighbor a few times and he said his dog hadn't been off of his property. The next time she saw the dog on her property she shot it with a pain gun. I'm not advocating shooting any critter with a paint gun.

I'm sure whatever it was, will be back. Years ago I had a bobcat kill some of my Pheasants. It came back.

So to give everyone an update, I've found the culprit. I went inside to grab some treats for the chickens after I let them out for a supervised free range I heard the guineas go crazy. I ran outside and found a German shepherd chasing my birds around. Cops were called and owner was identified. I am calling the sheriffs office Monday and I want the owners to pay for the chickens. It badly injured three of my hens and killed one grown hen his time... frustrating but I am happy I know who and what did it. And I am holding them responsible even if that means a small claims court case...

I have 3 german shepherds. Due to prey drive they are never allowed contact with the chickens. They would not kill them intentionally, but the bite force thinking its a toy is enough. One of mine did get a baby rabbit. I never saw a dog move faster. He just walked around with it in his mouth, until I was able to get him to drop it. I was hysterical and will never forget it. It was nothing vicious either. As long as mine don't have contact they watch over them. There was a GSD near by that would chase coyotes off that tried getting chickens. Bunnies, squirrels and chickens are off limits, but I can tell you they adore kids and are good with people.

I'm very sorry for your losses. As a GSD owner I would be horrified if any of my dogs did that and I would pay all expenses without court, but that is who I am.

Glad the dog theory was confirmed, but so sorry you had to suffer more losses to catch the culprit. Thank you for updating us, let’s hope the owner is mature about this and settles things without a fight.

glad you finally found out what and who owns the dog, now do make them pay for the chickens maybe he will keep the dog home or next time you might have to do something else
