Disgusting!

Even if that tank is a 20 gallon long tank, it's probably too small for the chicks already, as even a 20L is only about 12 x 30 inches. I figure give each chick about a square foot and they will be better off, half that space if they are under 2 weeks old.

My chicks are brooded outside however.

Our 4 (crossing fingers) girls are in a clear storage bin in our living room. I clean the food tray and water 2 times a day and I use plastic gloves to pick out poo and then deposit it into our compost pile. The house stay's non stinky, the chicks stay close by for super observation, we enjoy their game's and we don't notice any smell besides the pine bedding. Im thinking about making them diapers so they can come inside when they are older. Oh and today is their first bath day! They have been trying to dust bathe in the litter lol so I can tell they feel grimy!

Chicks don't start to smell until two weeks...

Quail chicks, they STINK immediately.

It's so funny to see them dust bathe in wood chips. Give them a dish of sand and they should take right to it! If you use water with any detergent to bathe them, don't do it very much, as in maybe once every few months if you must, such as before a show, as it strips the oils on feathers that are only replaced once a year. I bathed a silkie roo I had with just conditioner about once a month when I was a kid so I could bring him inside, and poor guy had the rattiest feathes of all the chickens by the time fall came around.

I have four two week old chicks in a 50 gallon container in my den. NO smell whatsoever and I quiz everybody who comes over to be sure. LOL! I change the pine shaving every three days or so, and add more in between. I am always changing their feeder and water. I give them meal worms and lettuce to eat and play with. I even hung a mirror/bell parakeet toy for them peck. They ring the bell for room service. I think I will keep them one more week in there and then to a large cage in the garage.

I have 6 chicks that are 3 weeks old in a 60 gallon aquarium with a screen top and size wise, they won't be in there much longer. We use pine shavings on top of newspaper and clean it regularly, this combined with the tank being beside a window that we open during the day, our living room still smells like chickens.

I used to raise a lot of ducks though, and I can say from experience, I'd much rather have the chickens in my house than the ducks!!
