Dislocated or deformed?

If anyone has a better suggestion on my brooding I would love any I’m going to change their food to the waterfall food that floats tomorrow morning, but I will tell you clean these brooders before and after work and working full-time has been a journey but it is so worth it. The cuteness is overwhelming.

When I had 2 weeks old Runners and newly hatched Runners to keep from having separate brooders I made 2 brooders inside of one the one with the new ducklings was smaller of course but this way they could also share a heat lamp if that is what you are using. I used a piece of hardware cloth and wrapped the edges in gorilla tape so they wouldn't get poked this way they could see each other once the little ones were a couple days old I would put them in with the bigger ones and watch to make sure they wouldn't step on them or bite them They were a little rough at first but after a week of doing this they ended up all being together and they are still good friends. This was 2019.

I am so upset I talked to the specialist today and they quoted me $8000 to try to fix her legs and I cannot afford it. I am heartbroken so she said that even after paying 8000 you may or may not have success with it and she doesn’t recommend not only would it be 8000 but I would have to pay $200 every two weeks to bring her in and get her splinted, I am so sad. I asked if they had financing but they don’t so I’m gonna have to try to figure something out with helping her to be as comfortable as I can maybe some padding for her knees and it seems like her little legs are spraying more that she seems to walk around but she is getting around better and getting stronger and she’s getting so big , I can’t even imagine getting her euthanized she’s not in any pain from what I can see. Does anybody know what the signs of her being in pain will be she eats she plays with her sister when I hold her she doesn’t cry and she tries to clean me and kiss on me , I am so upset I can’t put her down. They said she’s so small the way they would have to do it is by gassing her and then they would have to give her a shot in her heart. I can’t do it.

If she was in pain she sure wouldn't be acting like you are describing. I am so sorry this did not work out. I think making or buy her a wheelchair for her to get around in the house would be a good idea. and when you take her out have some kind of padding for her knees so she has protection from them being on the hard ground. That would be the worst if she started getting sores from walking on her knees . I would just keep up with what your doing. She'll let you know when she is done with life mine always have. They stop eating they don't interact with any of their flock and you just know they are not going to live much longer. This is when they are old for me most of the time and hopefully, it will be that way for you too.
Sounds to me like she has a strong will to live. Vets are making it extremely hard for people to have pets and livestock with the expense that is why most of us are our own vets.

That is so true I was completely prepared to take almost all my savings and spend around 3000 to get her fixed but when she gave me 8000 my heart dropped it’s crazy her legs are so little. She’s a call Duck so even full grown her legs are still little. I don’t understand why it’s so much money, but I will do all those things and I will keep her and try to give her the best life I can

If you decide to make a wheelchair the only difference would be it will have low-to-ground since she will be walking around on her knees but i think if you do decide to go the wheel chair they make them to the specifics of the bird or dog or what ever the animals are.

Do you have more Calls besides the 2 in your house in the brooder?

Yes, I will definitely go with the wheelchair one I have the little yellow one which is her sister I have her and then I have two other ones. I think those are the other two you’re talking about so far altogether I don’t have any older birds just the four a six week old And almost 4 week old and then the two babies

I have to integrate the six week old in the four week old outside pretty darn soon. I know they’re starting to get sick of being in these routers but they don’t get along that well I’m not sure why they seem to get along better when they’re outside though cause I’ve been taking them outside for a little bit just to kind of walk around, but the older one picks on the younger one but they have to go outside soon when I try to do it this weekend but I’m scared. I really don’t know how to go about it. I feel bad I’m just gonna leave them outside. They’re my little babies and they’re so attached to me and bonded with me. I’m scared they’re going to be upset and scared , but I know it’s something that has to be done. Do you know the best way to interrogate integrate bonded ducklings like this outside for the first time should I try to leave them during the day and then bring them in at night at first?

Set them up so they are side by side but can't pick on each other usually it doesn't take long to integrate them like this. Just make sure neither can fly off do you have a pen and coop for them if so section off part of the pen so they are separate but together. Then a couple times a day or 1X put them together with supervision so you can see how they are doing with each other. I like to toss mealworms down so they are more interested in eating than picking on each other. I'd cover the top of the pen Calls can fly well. Inside the coop, you can use dog crates or something in scraps to keep them separated until they are ready to be together. Up to you if you bring them inside at night . As long as they are feathered in and they have been acclimated to the weather they should be fine. As long as your run and coop is secure.

Ok perfect sounds good the little one the 4 week old one of her wings are sticking out she can tuck them in but seems like there to heavy or something it seems like the blood feathers on the one that’s sticking out is a little longer than the other side that she’s holding normal. Do you think she’s too young for me to treat I did cut down her protein I have them on all flock flock razor because it’s so small and they seem to eat it easier than the bigger but she’s at the point now where she can eat the pellets so I switched her to a grower, but her wings seems to be looking more and more weird. My oldest did the same thing but it ended up correcting itself pretty fast once I’ve switched the food, but hers doesn’t seem to be correcting itself. Do you think I should wait a few more weeks before treating her since she’s only four weeks old and maybe she’ll grow out of it or do you think it’s safer just to try to wrap her wing now
