Hey guys, so many nice Orp breeders on BYC, so many great colors to choose from...
Anybody know who sells WHITE ones? I think Cara needs those.

Ok, I might get flamed here, but I had a bad day with the "egg business" I agree that with 9 different people hatching the eggs and only getting 1 chick total is most likely the sellers fault and they are not being honest and just selling eggs to make a dollar.

With that said, there are some of us sellers that do check fertility and do get good hatches on our shipped eggs, but there are a handful of customers that buy eggs and don't get a great hatch. I did everything on my end to ensure the eggs are viable when they leave my house. I have no more control, but somehow it is my fault and I should feel obligated to send more eggs? I do replace eggs on a case by case basis but if someone has 10-12 of my eggs developing and only 2 hatch does that mean I have to send more eggs or chance having my name drug across BYC and stomped in chicken poop?

Sorry, vent over......I guess buying from ebay, eggbid and anywhere that you don't know the reputation of the seller is a gamble, but even if you do buy from a reputable seller and the hatch doesn't go as planned it is still a gamble buying hatching eggs period. I am surprised any eggs hatch at all that travel packed in a box and tossed in the back of a truck and whatever elsethey do with them. We have actually decided to stop selling hatching eggs period and stick with the sure thing, chicks, ducklings, and goslings. Now those I can guarantee and make everyone happy.

I totally agree with you Ms. Turbo. I think more of the issue is that Cara has contacted several of the other buyers and they say they've made the seller aware of their zero hatches yet the seller says this is the first they've heard of it.

I know as a seller I do every thing possible to ensure the eggs arrive in the best shape possible. However you're right sometimes things just don't work out thru no fault of the seller.

I couldn't agree more. I sell eggs myself, and frequently buy shipped eggs. Bad hatches are a given, and it is aggravating when a buyer complains because only 50% hatched etc etc, and accuses you of everything under the sun with no justification

The difference is neither of us have had a complaint from every person we've ever shipped to. Neither of us have sold eggs with a 1% overall hatch rate. If you did, would you continue selling them anyway, and deny any knowledge of a problem, or would you stop selling them until the problem had been rectified?

I think buying eggs is a risk, but if the person has a bunch of bad feedback then there's a red flag there. I have bought alot of shipped eggs to try and get a nice BBS orp flock going and I've had some good stuff and some bad stuff happen.

It's a risk everyone takes but you take the risk on the assumption that the person you are doing business with is being up front and honest with you.

FYI cara....only 1 little man out of the eggs and replacements, but he is big and healthy and beautiful!!!

Sorry but that's one of the sorriest White Orps I've seen in awhile.

It looks more like an elderly production white rock than it does an orp.

Could you pm me with where I could find some nice ones?

If they have sold a ton of eggs on ebay I can almost guarantee they have been contacted about a bad hatch, they just don't care. All we can do is let our friends on BYC know to stay away from that seller. We hear from people all the time about the hatches. I even get pictures of our "babies" all grown up a year later, it is very cool.
