I had ducks with chickens... never again... life is so much cleaner and nicer when they live apart.
One quail died from the cold when I had them in a tractor out on the lawn at the end of the summer... it just got too cold for them...
I then moved them into my coop, built a spot under a poop shelf. My coop (just my original coop, nothing else) is insulated, and I enclosed the under the poop shelf area for them. There is ZERO draft there, and they have done very well, even when their water freezes solid.
Only thing is that they lay where ever they are standing... so you have to keep the entire enclosure super clean, or the eggs get nasty.
