Dixie Chicks

Thanks!

A problem? Nah... just remember chicken math!

Chicks, roos and non laying hens don't count... neither do quarantined birds... or bantams... or ducks... sooo....

That is a great rule RavynFallen! It was super funny about my chicks I got this year.....so far..... Anyways, 1st I got 6 chicks from Rural King. Few days later, went to my feed store and guess what?!?! Of course, I got more! 7 more and popped them in the brooder box. DH never noticed! Maybe it's bad that I taught my daughter this lesson. She of course had to keep her mouth shut. I have found this technique works with shoes, and clothes as well

I know I have a million posts to catch up on and it won't happen today. Yesterday was busy running around and catching up on housework and starting on yard work.

@minihorse927 We finally had a decent day yesterday (and I was home)! We let the CCLs free range with all the rest of the flock. One of the young roosters has been with my EEs and OEs. The other has been by himself for the most part. Well yesterday he decided to take his spot in the pecking order. He would fluff out his feathers and jump like a banshee then the hen would do a pterodactyl screech and he would run like a scared puppy. Too funny

When they all went to roost last night, all did well except for King Tut (the big CCL roo). We couldn't find him anywhere. He is very defiant and I wasn't real worried about him, but we searched the property twice. He's a good hider. I heard him crowing about 15 minutes ago. Still dark out, but I know he's ok

Today is all about separating who goes with who. The hens are still not laying good and I need chicks.

really???

I think the net time I see a cop try to pull me over I will die of heart failure.

Last time a cop tried to pull me over I turned a couple of corners super fast and managed to get out of site before he closed the distance.

I really need 3 or 4 more coops... but I have NO IDEA where I would stick them!!!!!!

And I just heard the song blasting in my head "You have the POWER!!!!"
Speeding tickets happen. The officer asked me asked why I was going so fast and I told him I have a long trip and this car handles so much better than mine. He really didn't like my answer I think.....It wasn't well thought out. But I was being honest! I wasn't about to run Alaskan! I'd be in jail or dead. I just took the ticket and paid it yesterday.

Lesson learned: Always use cruise control when you can

No. Fish are delicious

Lol! I've thought the same! Maybe fish carcasses, but I feed them ground up to the chickens now. You can buy fish emulsions, I've used it concentrated, just add water, it stinks. It worries me though I lost a bunch of plants when I went all organic after reading it improved flavor, and it did. Lost a bunch I had in five gallon buckets with blood meal, bone meal, and rotted down fish juice. I think racoons dug all the dirt out of them.A few that didn't get nailed were hugemoungus. I put a layer of dirt, layer of fertilizer funk, top with more dirt, put in some potting soil to plant plant in, grows down into the fertilizer funk. Works good with tomatoes also, but I use rabbit poop now.

We plant potatos on valentines day every year.
The native Americans here would dig a hole. Put in 2 fish. A corn seed, a squash seed, and a bean seed.
The corn would grow tall. The bean would climb the corn. The squash would drown out the weeds

There is a whole thread about it, its the 3 sisters style of planting...

I've grown beans up my corn, never with squash though.

I'm envious of everyone's far gone planting projects.

8km on cross country skis today, and a couple of hours in the slopes. Visibility was pretty poor in the slopes, so we didn't stay too long.

Yep! I was going to say that's the three sisters (even a constellation named after them). We do that planting every year. Most years the sweetcorn doesn't ripen in time but the other plants do great. As for the fish part, you have to be sure to bury deep, or you attract coons and fox. We don't always use fish unless we have too many left in the freezer from the prior year or if we have some "leftovers" from cleaning a catch.
