Dixie Chicks

  I'm trying to control myself! I have 8 new birds coming tomorrow, shipped chicks next week, and chicks hatching after that. I need to slow down.... cause that honestly works sooo well.
slow down, chickens? Chicken math won't allow that!

Already crowing????  Why are you killing the hen?  Is she an egg eater?

In reply to your earlier question.....I want 10.  Not having luck though.

Another question.  We have 2 barred rock hens.  Should I breed them with my SS roo, or with the CCL roo?

I'd probably breed to the ccl. Possibility of the chicks being autosexing.@Outpost JWB

No, not the CCL... try the SS and you might get sex-linked... both parents being barred, unless pures, can pass barring to all chicks...

I watched her attack this chick! Shes been taking care of it for a week now and all of a sudden she did this. no more chicks for her, ever. I'm super upset over this.

Yes, crowing. Pathetic, muffled, sounds like they're drowning, crows

Oh, poor baby!! :(

but the ccl roo is double barred meaning the chicks will all be barred at hatch, females should have a darker down. Keyword is should.

Double barred roo over single barred hens usually causes the male chicks to be lighter in color at hatch.

Now, yes the barred hens with a non barred roo should make all males barred and sexable at hatch.

IN a bit of hen defense...  could there possibly have been something wrong with the chick some how?

deb
anything possible but it's been healthy, active, noisier than an average chick, eating and drinking fine. I don't know. I don't trust her now, the chick passed.
