I didn't think it had to be as often as they say. A darn broody hen probably doesn't stir the pot all day long, and how's she going to know she got them all when she can't mark them.

ya I get that but on the other hand she isnt gonna be a statue all day long I figure there is some movement randomly all the time as she shifts ajusts gdoes her little egg sitting wiggle on em.....

OMG, that reminds me of the first meal I cooked when I started dating the wife. She called from work, I was three sheets to the wind drunk, she told me to put the chicken in the oven, pretty simple. Had the sides on and turned out good by time she got home.
I'm glad she didn't notice I never took the giblet package out of the chicken.

I dunno... I think the best I have had was 8 out of 9 (and that was shipped eggs).

But, I also got 1 out of 12 with shipped eggs.

And hatching from my eggs... is all over the board....

I think lots of it is feed.....  if I haven't upped the feed enough from just their regular pellets... I get a worse hatch rate

Temps, too cold or too hot, can affect hatch rates too... think you are doing well with working uphill anyways...

oh, you mean the increased altitude?

Yeah, I know that messes stuff up with shipped eggs..... I wonder though, I am at 1,300 feet above sea level... is that high enough to make a difference?

Nah, wasn't talking about the altitude, but battling uphill because of your colder weather and daylight differences...

however, I would think that the nutrition of the flock would be better now.... more people are giving me green scraps for the chickens.....

I am just trying to figure out my chick deaths...

not sure why.... odd, that is all.


I really need to start up the brewers yeast again... I have been slacking.

Don't beat yourself up over the Marans... I am very tempted to drop mine... they are just horrible to hatch...
