Dixie Chicks

We have looked into getting a greenhouse but I have no idea what I would do with one. We plant our garden by the farmers almanac and it produces enough to get us through winter and spring and part of summer until it's time to do it all again.
You would Grow even more food and you would donate it because your cool like that...
kinda like this hennible: our roof rarely ever has snow on it or slides right off. You gain more head room by creating a 3 foot wall at the bottom. as the snow slides off it creates another insulator around the bottom wall. This was taken after our first snow fall
Crap that's genius... you can add a pony wall to an A frame, good idea. Thank you for the inspiration

My OH decided the power tools were a good investment when he found out I knew basic construction, he is a car guy only, lol. He says he was right, I do all our renovation and building. I think I got the short end of THAT one! :D
Yep, milder than when I lived in Skagit Valley. I live almost dead center in TN, an hour and 20 mins south of Nashville. It looks a LOT like the Skagit area did about 20 years ago, but warmer. Just missing the Sound. ;)

@Beer can thank you, I thought about it a lot before putting it on, now very glad I did. Cheaper? Maybe, or maybe not, lol. That panel is 8x2 approx and was $20 or $22 at Lowe's. OH deemed it worth the cost. He has become smitten with all our chickens, lol.
Wish I could put mine on the ground, but we have copperheads and cottonmouths here. Never seen any on our hill, but they would love and egg buffet laid out at their level, lol.

My thought is framing in windows is harder than putting on a roof panel and I think it would let in more light.

Question: do you find your chickens make a difference in the mosquito population around your house?

We don't get many mosquitoes around our house thankfully, but heard they are quite bad here. We do get these itty bitty gnats that look like a floating piece of white fuzz that bite horrendously! The bites don't itch like mosquitoes but hurt a lot and leave a red welt. Don't think the chickens will help with those, but we'll see this summer.

ok so dixie had me laughing earlier.. when I was feather sexing everyone.. I was handling them and was petting them before lifting them from brooder they all come run over now..anyways.. I was petting eggna poe and all of a sudden dixie leaps up like a lil marhsmellow puffball and hands in my hand and sprawls across my hand with abandon..was the funnest thing scared the bejebbers outta me at first but was funny lol

You are very right there! Cost evens out saving in time and labor. Plus if it is angled toward the setting sun (or rising) it increases it even more. But being on the roof seems to let in more light than windows, in IMO.
